Run 4 Kids 2008

Postby running sweetlee » Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:11 am

I noticed in the Herald Sun this morning that entries for Run 4 Kids are opening tomorrow on-line at 9am and there will be a entry form in tomorrows paper.

I loved this event last year and have started my training for 2008. I am hoping to not be plagued with niggles and score a better time :D

As R4TK 2007 was the event that inspired me to start running, I'll be there for 2008!

I'll definitely be entering.

I just heard the ad for it on the radio and said "I have to do that tomorrow"... my sister was very confused, she thought I meant I was running tomorrow!

I was surprised they started promotion so early, surely a January launch for a March 30 event would be enough.....

I assume this year it will get daily mentions somewhere in the Herald Sun, but I also noticed they did not talk about a course or a distance (that I saw anyway), will they remedy the misfortunes of last years course??

Hopefully I can get things right to be there this year, but 11 days before TW probably means I'll cruise through from the back of the pack and just enjoy the atmosphere of 30,000!!!
42.2km is just the warm-up

Yep think I'll be doing it, but the same as Clarkey as it is pretty close to trailwalker.

I'm sure JK will return for a second look at those lovely sculptures that she so greatly admired last year

Looks pretty much like the course we ran last year, so now are we to believe that we only ran 14.14kms instead of the 15.2kms that everyone knew was wrong but they refused to admit?

While I understand that this race is for a cause, I could just as easily donate staight to the Good Friday Appeal, and save myself the bother of a run, so for me to enter the run, they have to get things right.

Last year, to be honest, they made a mess of the course distance. We all knew it was wrong, but never got any acknowledgement.

The course changes, the questionable distance the event is held over, and a few other minor things from last years event have left me wondering if I should enter or not. Chances are that I probably will, but I'm not leaping up now to say I'm a certainty.

I'll be in too... great run for a great cause.

The course change in interesting. I think the Collins St hill is probably a little steeper than the LaTrobe St hill. They need to have a consistant place where people come cheer. Last year there were heaps of people on the corner of LaTrobe & Spencer which they've cut out.

Like TB I am in two minds (no smart comments - thanks) about this event. It just doesn't 'do it' for me yet...

There is no doubting the worth while cause ... and if I do the event it will be more because I don't want to be the only runner in Melbourne not doing it .... !

Yes, I noticed that as well but it doesn't bother me enough not to enter. In fact, I am so excited about doing this run again, I have already entered

TB,

the course changes from last year are in three places. Firstly, we come around the western side of the Phone Dome and up Collis St, rather than along LaTrobe and Spencer. Next, we come along the river side of Crown (which we did in the end, anyway)and then finally, we don't do the dog leg down to Govt House dDr and back but rather come down Birdwood the opposite way to last year. This easily accounts for the 700m or so lost (most people who used a GPS last year cmae up with a distance of around 14.8km, I think)

I'm happy the the "Short Course" has gone up to 5.7km, a bit more substantial than the 3.4km last year.

Definately entering this one, ran 57:54 in this years race. Shorter distance, goal is to beat 54:00.

Seeing the numbers this year, its a must to get in early guys and gals. :D

I am hoping to make it to the start line in 2008 rather than running a default ambulance service, must make sure my dear Mum has a ready supply of her blood pressure medication in the lead up

I have no interest in quibbling about the course and or the minutiae of its measurement, it is not an event I enter looking for glory or a PB, it is a good cause, a great day out and I love that so many people will be doing something positve for themselves on a Sunday morning.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the pub afterwards

I've entered already. Last years short course was my first "race" and it was awesome. Never forget crossing the line and bursting into tears! AFTER ONLY 3.4 km!(thats a recovery run for me now!) I remember thinking how amazingly fit everyone doing the long course must be and that next year I'm doing that...and I am!!! Wrapped...no...honoured, to be there this year. :D :D :D

Am waiting to see what the sports doc says on the 21st before I even think about running next year. Might have to volunteer to help out just to be part of the whole thing!

I'm definately in for 2008. Last year I ran the 15kms, 2 weeks after trekking through nepal. After being in altitude I think I could have run a marathon, unfortunately that sort of cardio fitness doesn't hang around when injury strikes so will start my slow training- road back to R4TK and try and better my time from last year. Couldn't care less if it's 14.2 or 15.2 or 14.8, I think for some people the "FUN" may have gone out of the run???????

Great cause, Great Atmosphere.....30,000 people out there having a go, what more do you need to inspire you???
Do the thing & you will have the power

I have signed up to run again as well (having run in 2006 & 2007)

Even with the (constantly) changing course it is still a great event and for a great cause.

I have signed up for this one too-I get a t-shirt, early start, tiring day on my feet and a feeling that I am doing something good for a good cause.

Oh, did I mention that I signed up as a volunteer- looking forward to handing you all a drink and shouting encouragement or whatever they want me to do.
