is there anyone out there running without an acl???

recently went in for a clean up on my knee and they discovered i had actually torn my acl.

surgeon immediatly says no more running long distances especially marathons and you should have a knee reconstruction which i have already had , the physio was a little more realistic saying depends on what work you do on your quads and hammys.

is there anyone out there running without an acl how do you find it does it make a great difference

Anterior Cruciate Ligament

It's in the knee, it's something that footballers are always damaging.

Moe, I have a friend who runs with very little cartilage in one of her knees, doc has told her to give it in but she doesn't want to so she limits the running she does these days, short races and the occasional longer race as part of a triathlon.

I agree with physio......you'll need to build up your hamstring and quad cause thats all that will stop your knee hyperextending backwards which is what the ACL's job is. Of course the longer the distance and the more fatigued those muscles get the less chance of them supporting the knee..........
