I'm in a hotel with no access to scales, so no weigh in for me this week. This is probably a good thing though as hotel living on company expenses means I get to the hotel with good intentions which vanish once I take a look at a menus.

I did do a short run and some indoor cycling today though, so hopefully its not all bad.

Loss of .5 kg this week, pretty happy with this considering i am battling not to overeat due to stopping smoking last Tuesday (over a week and doing well!)

Would not ideally have made decision to stop smoking whilst doing a weight challenge, but realised that really ... my whole life is a weight challenge!!, so the stopping smoking at this point was more important (running goals will be much easier to achieve and this will help weight loss in "the long run" anyway) even if it temporarily sets me back with weight loss. Still, trying hard not to use it as an excuse for eating or weight gain and was pleased to have had a loss this week.

Anticipated challenges of last week have been transferred to this week (said i had 2 kiddie parties). Well this weekend i have THREE  kids parties to go to ( had the date wrong of one and thought it was last weekend and another got moved by a week due to the little one being sick plus my nieces also makes 3!) plus 2 dinners out that i know of so far - the social eating continues to be a major challenge! Also still having trouble with niggly hammy, although massage on Tuesday was great...

Thought of the previous discussions we have had re "the new bad". Felt like a choccie/sweet hit on the weekend and whilst i lingered for quite some time by the darrel lea counter i ended up choosing 3 furry friends (only 15g of choccie i think) and 2 little packs of Ovaltinies (great suggestion i think i got from kathrynoh- ovaltinies are great!) So i felt very "naughty" having FIVE little treats but the total calorie count was relatively low - another example of "the new bad" :D

Had my goal as 8 kg in 8 weeks and i have lost 7.5 kg in 7 weeks - as much as it would be great to reach my goal, if i get to next week and remain a non smoker and maintain my weight for the week i will be very happy! Still, will have a crack at getting rid of that .5 kg and see how it goes! Good luck to everyone for a great week ahead! - OMG it is so hard to get out of bed these cold mornings!! All in a good cause....

PS Apologies for (another) long post, serious sleep issues this week, think it's the extra caffeine and the nicotine patches- talk about drug shuffling

Congrats on deciding to quit smoking joey! I would rate that equal to, if not higher than loosing weight. You'll feel a hole lot better soon and lets not start about how much it will improve your running. If you need motivation we get a group of Ausrunners together to follow you around shouting "No Joey, No, Noooo Joey"

-1kg to me so I'm on 79kg now :D Seems taking in less carbs at night is doing the trick. Of course it could just be my body reacting so I'll see the long term effects before I get too excited. Also, 71kg using the towel rak

Joey that is fantastic- 7.5kg in 7 weeks- you have obviously been making sensible choices and good on you for giving up smoking- I can appreciate how much that makes you feel like eating. Keep it up.

(Yes I am still lurking on this thread even though I am not posting my weight- am going to WW on Thursday nights whenever I can instead).

Thanks Sam and morsey! - luckily i am doing ok with the not smoking - i just felt very ready this time and am excited about the improvements in breathing when running i have already noticed - the new ban on smoking in pubs is awesome as i was in a pub last saturday night and last night also and it was SOOO much help to not have it around me.

If i ever feel the urge for a smoke i will picture the Ausrunner cheer squad encouraging me not too, more to the point every time i want to eat something i shouldn't!!

Well done sam on being under the 80 kg mark - must feel great to have a "7" happening in front of the weight!! (I wouldn't know 'cos i ain't been there in 15 years  )

Joey congratulations - especially at a hard time giving up smoking. I only lasted a few days with the patches as they had me quite hyperactive and still craving badly. I ended up giving up with Zyban.

Best of luck :D

Go Joey GO, Go Joey Go.

I didn't even look at my weight this week, am in the middle of a majorly wretched head cold and stumbling around like a zombie. So we'll see what happens next week.

Everyone else seems to be doing pretty well. I appear to have chosen this short term weight challenge period to a) stop exercising b) get monumentally stressed out and overworked and c) get sick. Fabulous.

Fantastic effort on the weigh loss front Joey :D

Good luck with giving up the ciggies, very tough habit to break but the rewards you will reap healthwise will be worth it 8)

Thank you SO much guys for your messages of support - it really does help! I had an evil thought in a bored moment at work this morning which is quite probably "too much information" but do you reckon that Sam's theory re "gut on the towel rail" would work for us girls with our chests??!! Seriously curious to try it now- maybe that will get me over the line!!! (Now i will quietly wait to see if any others are brave enough to admit to trying it! )

To anybody trying and struggling to give up smoking, I urge you to consider hypnotherapy. I was a heavy smoker (25+ per day) for about 10 years when I gave up. I had tried many many times with no success. One hypnotherapy session 5 years ago and in that time I haven't smoked once. I know it won't work for everybody, but it did for me. It didn't remove the desire to smoke, I still fancied one, but it stopped me feeling I needed one.
