Monthly Update - July

Postby Grechy » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:55 pm

It's almost that time of the month! :P Thought I would get in quick.

July kms - 130

Injuries - None at all, just have to be very careful building the kms back up.

Excuses - I am so fat that I cannot fit into a lot of my clothes. The weight will come off with the gradual increase in kms.

Races - Coliban relays and Bundoora 12km XC - enjoyed both races despite running at my slowest for several years.

Upcoming - Brimbank, Sandown relays and maybe a club handicap race in between.

Goals - Build the kms up slowly and put together 12 months of consistency.

Summary - Enjoying myself a lot more despite running so slow. Things will take a while to get back to normal but I know I will complete more races this year than I did last year simply because I will get out there regardless of how fast I will run. Make sure you say G'day when you are lapping me!

Given that Brimbank is in July, I'll post mine after it.

July km's 265kms
Y.T.D 1457kms

Injuries: Nothing significant... just general muscle soreness after longer runs

Excuses: None although feeling overwhelmed a little..

Upcoming Race:
Adelaide Marathon - 15th August

Summary: Can't complain as I'm on track with my training. I've gotten a couple of 30kms or 30kms+ runs in so the rest is just up to performance on the day.

July kms - 193

Injuries - sore calfs still, physio is giving them a good work out :)

Excuses - Usuall, kids, time, work..

Races - GC Half Mararthon, was fun and weather was perfect 1:49. Mornington Bay Run, 8km in 41.35 though my watch had it at 8.4kms, tough little course which pushes you all the way to the end.

Upcoming - Sandy point 1/2. Missing out on Devil Bend :(

Goals - Kepe on working at my marathon plan.

Summary - Good month even after having 5 days off after i got back from QLD. Must be time for some new runners...

July kms - 60km (minus 320metres)

Injuries - I'M FINE

Excuses - laziness

Races - Mornington Bay Run - 38:52. Wouldn't really call it a race on my behalf though...

Upcoming - Sandown Relays

Goals - Slowly increase mileage....

Summary - Best month of the year. My second biggest month behind January, but a lot of that was with a fair bit of pain. Now if i can improve a little, get some endurance back (that will come) I'll be more confident to run quicker. Hopefully...........

July kms 328.8 (July '09, 353.6), Last month 319.4, YTD 1856.9

Races: club race 8km 30.14, Coliban 6km 24.49, Bundoora XC 12km 47.48, VMA Road Race 10km 38.36, Brimbank XC 16km 70.07.

Upcoming Sri Chinmoy 30km, Club race 8km, National XC 12km (no I didn't qualify, I'm running as an additional competitor since I'm up there anyway to run as a guide for an AWD), Sandown relays 6.2kms.

Injuries/excuses - No.

Goals - talk to Jumping Jack Reiwoldt, let's hope he gets the Coleman (because apart from the spoon it's the only thing we have a chance of this year).

Summary - Good month overall, despite a small setback today, but possibly one too many races, and not enough hill work. Still feeling that I'm doing OK, but seeing as my best distance over the last 3 years has been 400m, I did wonder what I was doing in a 10miler this arvo  . If I can keep running well, I should end up with a respectable season, and who knows, maybe even a half decent marathon.

July km's-408.8 (most ever) Y.T.D-2266.8km July '09- 291.8km

Injuries- Inflammed right hip flexor ( not a real issue really)

Excuses- Just one. That there's only 31 days in the month,

Races- *3/7- Newcastle A.C 1mile XC Relays- 4:44
*18/7- Great North 10km @ Sunderland- 33:38
*27/7- British Milers Club 3000m South West Champs @Exeter- 9:07.4 (2nd best ever)

Upcoming- *8/8- Meerbrook 15km (Hilly course)

Goals- Wow, its too exciting to have any goals for this month, but this a my running defining month. It is that huge, im speachless, no words at all. It seriously will mean that much too me.

Summary- July was the greatest body of work ive ever done as a runner. It was basicly art. You have to look past the results, and realise the workrate and the level of dedication to really appreciate what im doing. For this time of year, im spending more time on the track than i ever have, and the sessions have been electric. Sessions include 6 x 1km; 4 x 1600m another one; and my recent fav: 3 x 3km (9:35,9:45,9:39). I spent a week in the mountains in Wales which destroyed me, but the strength gained has been massive, i.e: a 9:07 3000m, my 2nd fastest ever, and what was run on legs feeling every bit the strain from the months work. It took all last track session before i broke 9:15 for the 1st time, this is speical :D Its a month of 7 day weeks, 2 runs a days, 4 gym sessions a week(60-90min). Has it been worth the trip? Without a doubt :D Summary done

July km's: 103km

Injuries: None, working hard to make sure I don't get any

Excuses: None :)

Races: Zip

Upcoming: Zilch

Goals: Keep building the kms up slowly and start working towards CC Half in December

Summary: I'm really very, very happy to actually have something to post in this thread as I started back running the last week in June after an 18 month break. I'm pretty amazed at how quickly it's all coming back but the combination of nutrition, strength work and general caution is helping immensely. I started six weeks ago unable to run to the end of the road and finished the month with a 70min run, looking at my total for July it seems like a lot for a fresh start but I'm paying close attention to how everything feels and tbh there are absolutely no signs of overuse - not even a niggle in the shin which is something that plagued me constantly before I gave up the last time. Looking forward to seeing what the next month brings :D

Thanks Beki, no way was I following John's update!!

Nice work by the way Beki, consistency is paying off nicely for you :D

July km's: 306km

Injuries: Nope!

Excuses: None, in spite of some seriously cold weather

Races: Not as many as I had originally planned for July, probably for the best as I got some good training in instead
17/07 - 8km XC at Bundoora
31/07 - 6km XC at Brimbank

Upcoming: Pretty quiet month, just Sandown Relays on the 28th

Goals: Yes

Summary: Have suddenly noticed in the last month how much of a benefit Pilates has been, I've stuck with it religiously for a year now and I am finding it easier to hold form on long runs when I start to tire and have felt more confident on rough surfaces like XC and the trails, though I am sure I still look as unco as ever. Training has been going really well and I've been stronger and faster than I ever have been, just need to translate that through to racing, as yoda says, don't think, just do - or something like that.

Despite a week off with a badly sprained ankle, I managed about 180k for the month and have re-ignited by Melb Marathon campaign which had well and truly gone off the rails.

I have nothing else on the horizon other than October 10th and am pumped at the prospect of the next 9-10 weeks of intense training. Bring it on!
