Hello, I'm new :)

Postby Towsey » Fri Jul 23, 2010 2:20 pm

I've been a stalker for a while on here, but finally plucked up the courage to register today after my first EVER 10km run!!! Wuhoo!!!

I used to run a lot at school, but as an adult I have done the odd 3k-er here and there. I play a lot of netball but running was never a priority. I started about 2 months ago properly, and entered the Sri Chinmoy 10km Geelong run which is in October. I progressed quickly to start, and within a couple of weeks, I was running every other day and went from running 3-4km to 9...and you guessed it...runners knee :( So sore and so annoying that I had to cut waaaay back. I started taking glucosamine/chondroitin and stopped runnning so much.

I have been doing about 6 km, very slowly and as it's very hilly where I live I have been taking it easy going downhill and not doing the 'wuhhooooooo' thing as I ran down :S what a novice, I had no idea the damage I was doing. Today I woke up and my knees felt great. I didn't feel like running (which weirdly means that I have a great run). I just kept going and going...I'm so pleased with myself. My other half said 'oh well done, but you could run it faster next time'...oh erm, thanks...I think ;P

I'm doing the 8km Yarra Valley Run in September and I can not wait. I just hope I can finish and hopefully don't come last.

Like I said, I've been a lurker for a while and you all seem so nice that I had to introduce myself

Thanks for reading, that is, if you made it this far

Hi!

It's great to hear someone else's enthusiasm about running!

I've had some pretty stupid questions over the last few months but everyone here is really helpful and friendly...

Glad you posted and keep us informed of your progess!

I only joined fairly recently as well and have found it such a great source of info and reassurance in making sure I'm on the right track.

The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked !!!
10km - 46:20 (Heart of the Lake 05/2010)
14km - 70:25 (City 2 Surf 08/2010)
21.1km - 1:46:54 (SMH 05/2010)
42.2km - 3:50:21 (M7 07/2010)

Pressure creates diamonds ...... what do you want to be when this is through ?
