running shoes

Postby yiimaisui » Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:40 pm

hi everyone,

i only started running about 2 years ago and i got the asics gel kayano 13's as my first pair of running shoes.

am thinking of getting a new pair or runners so that i can alternate between my old gel kayano and the new one. had a look at the new gel kayano 16's and i've been getting mixed feedback regarding it, i.e. it's very uncomfortable due to the assymetrical lacing system. on the other hand some people mentioned it's very comfortable (but this coming from heavier runners as they quote themselves).

any opinions on the new gel kayanos? or any other shoes that i should try?

Many runners have benefitted from visiting a specialist store that uses video analysis and often podiatry trained staff.

Then you will find the shoe that works the best.

In Melbourne, you can try Active Feet

I have just got the new gel kayanos, my third pair, I was determined to try out a few different shoes and not get stuck on the one brand but after getting lots of advice and trying lots of different ones I still ended up with them. I think you either love them or hate them!

thanks clarkey for the advice - i haven't been to an active feet store yet (it's pretty far from where i live) but i tried one of their video analysis when they were at last year's mother's day fun run. they mentioned that i'm good with the gel kayano's but i'm still not entirely sure if i should go with the new gel kayano's...

april - the only pair of runners i've ever had (like really, in my life lol) are the gel kayano 13's. initially i was determined that the gel kayano's would be the only shoes i will ever get should i get a new pair of runners (since they're really really comfortable and really good), but after reading reviews i really am unsure. am going to try them again in rebel sport. hopefully it's an ongoing love relationship with the kayano's!!!

know this is a bit ago...
yesterday I went to get some new shoes, and to be differnt try as many as I could. I am currently in the kayano 15 (long time kayano wearer since the original). The last time I did the same thing, thinking I would not get another, but then trying on the 15 was just so good, and they have been good, really good (I have alternated with a few other shoes I have as well).
well yesterday, the trance, no good (i used to love brooks many years ago, but can't get on any more), addidas salvatio, no good, tried a few others, no... then the K16... looked great (most important), but they felt great, just like my comfy 15's only a little better. Admitttedly I LOVE the offset lacing. So the 16 felt great... till I put on the 3010... woooooooo and now what I have... I miss the offset lacing, but so far a great shoe.

But the K16 are still a fine shoe, but i have a high volume foot, so the offset lacing works well for me... (the 3010 are 2E which is even better).

I have a pair of Kayano 15 (i find them very comfy) and I also have a pair of Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6 (also very comfy). I got fitted for my Mizuno's through video analysis and I find them great.
I suppose it depends on what you are comfortable with but I do recommend the video analysis.

yiimaisui, there are several stores that do a running gait analysis-whereabouts are you located?

I also run in Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6 and find them great. I was fitted via a hot spot running thing (not sure what its called!) and video analysis so I'm sure they are the best ones for me.

When I went in to get my 2nd pair I wanted to try other shoes, but after analysis again of my feet and running style (different place) they too said the same shoe was the best for me... and from what I tried on they definately were.

I'd recommend getting this done... with the video analysis, in my case, I could see how the shoe corrected how my feet were landing.. if that makes sense :)
