Starting again

Postby Suzyq » Tue Jul 13, 2010 2:41 pm

Thought I'd pop back in here for some motivation!

I got injured back in March and have hardly run since then. After alot of physio ... I'm now ready to run again! I've missed it HEAPS.

I have however (well... since its July already) decided its NO events for me and I will work on (after remembering good advice recieved in here) building a good base before I push myself to increase distance too far/too fast in the hope that I can avoid getting injured again.

So after the school holidays - 5 days!!! I'm gonna be a runner again! Well... I'm not sure how I'll go... thinking I'll start with a nice easy 5km run...

Cant wait! Hopefully my body remembers how too :D

So I now have a year and 1 month to build up to my next event (instead of 1 month!!) The wiseness of age :D

Well 4 runs down. Cant believe how well its going! I thought I'd have lost HEAPS of fitness.... I have lost alot, but not ALL. Amazing!

I've just been running for as long as I feel like. Have done 2 x 45 minute runs, one 30 minute run and today did 58 minutes, which turned out to be a 10 km loop. Was lovely running out in the countryside. Cant believe I can run 10kms after all this non-running that has been happening!

And it was enjoyable :D

Well done Suzy.
It will always be easier starting back than starting from scratch, because your body does remember what it was like, and so can adjust easier.
Don't overdo it though. It's easy to get excited, and then blow up big time. Just run when/how you feel like to get used to it again, and once you have got in to the swing of things, set yourself a new goal and set up a routine/training plan.
Now tell me SuzyQ, was that loop around Devil Gate Drive :)

haha thanks... sadly to say I did google to find the song... but at least I knew it was a song!!!

And yeah good advice... just this afternoon I got an email saying only 9 weeks til the Hamilton Half (which is my local one)... and I must admit I did have a fleeting thought... well... I COULD do it in that time.. then I remembered my new plan of building a good base before I increase my KMS too much... so yeah pushed the thought away! There is a 10km run attached so I will do that :) I did it last year and it was AWFUL 3 different out and backs on narrow tracks, walkers and runners for 3 different events all starting at the same time... but this year its a completely different loop course so should be better!

I'm so excited... cant wait to run tomorrow!

Yep :) All is good. Will give it plenty of time this time before I increase the distance too much.

I've popped a rib out a few times in the past and whilst it can be quite painful, once it's back in place then you're generally fine to resume normal activity. The first time I did it I had no idea what I'd done to myself and kept on training. After a visit to my remedial massage therapist, he promptly found the problem, poked and prodded until an audible 'click' was heard, followed by instant relief 8)

I hope you're feeling better now and can get stuck back into your training.

Thanks mightypieboy... Yeah the constant pain has completely gone! Its great :D (3 months at physio and he didnt pick it????) ANyway... yeah looking forward to getting into regular training.

Tho my 2nd run today nearly killed me! Very wet and slippery track, pouring rain. Only just survived 5kms! Lookign forward to some nicer weather... tho at least at the moment I can 'blame' slow yukky runs on the weather... I do like running in the rain, but today was just silly! And my shoes are saturated! Wish my 2 new pairs would hurry up and arrive. Got the wet ones sitting under the heat pump and hopefully they be dryish by tomorrow :)
