Adelaide Marathon

Postby margot » Wed Jun 23, 2010 12:10 pm

Think I'm going to sign up for the Adelaide marathon

http://www.sarrc.asn.au/marathon.html

I'm nervous as hell but also excited.

I just need a bit of encouragement!

Hubby says he'll help me with training which is good. I just wish I knew someone else who was doing it.
I can't wait to experience that feeling of crossing the finishing line!!!!!!

margot - it's exciting preparing for your first maraton, and getting to the start line.
One big thing though, don't make the same mistake as me, and go in thinking you've done everything possible, only to find out early that you haven't :(
Make sure you get all your longer runs in, and take more notice of what you eat and drink. Also, don't stress over things you can't control (e.g. weather on the day).
Believe in your plan, trust your training, and write us up a glowing report of success when it's over.
Good luck.

You don't need any such thing. Remember how you were injured and couldn't run for ages becuase you were doing too much

Yes I do. I do remember all that, however my weekly kilometres are far lower now and I've sorted a couple of little flaws in my technique (or lack of) out. In fact at the moment I'm doing very little in the way of training due to doing so many long events.
The reason I need Adelaide (or Sydney would have worked as well) is a silly one really-but to me it's important. I have done 8 marathons. That would mean that Melbourne would be my 9th. But by doing Adelaide, Melbourne becomes my 10th. How cool is it to do a 10th marathon on 10/10/10? Ok, like I said, lame! But also like I said it's become important to me. 10 marathons for someone who 5 years ago would have trouble running to the letterbox is a major thing for me and I'd like a memorable date and in my hometown!
Justification over. Not very convincing, but over.
