I only found out when I got to high school that I was an alright runner.

I went to what must have been an incredibly competitive primary school (it hadn't dawned on me until high school how unusual it was that most of the kids who qualified to run against other schools, then qualified again to run in the bigger district and state levels) so I just thought I was pretty average at it.

As soon as I got to high school, I was one of the faster ones so I got into training and started loving it from there.

I've never run a marathon in one go, but I have done a marathon distance (105.5 laps of the aths track) during a relay for life event which spanned over 24 hours.

Crazy thing was, I was finishing up year 7 at the time. There's no way I could do it now though. I went crazy for running and endurance training back in year 7.

I had a burst at about age 23 of running for 18 months, then things fell apart for about 18months, then I got them together again and have been running pretty much ever since.

My first marathon was 2008 at age 31.

Get back and competitive.

Hi there

good topic idea mum2!!

Ran a lot for football training - preseason etc as a teen. Started running for fitness on its own around 18. Went in Sun SuperRuns a few times, ran a lot in PE Teacher training (81-84)- and first marathon in 1989 (Melb).

Now 47. Hope (?!!) to keep going for life.... love stories like Ed Whitlock (2.54 marathoner at 73)...

cheers

Interesting thread-I haven't been here for a while so missed it!
Took up running as part of my mid life crisis at 39, Jan 2007. First fun run, Beat the Boat, 10km March 2007-still 39. First 1/2, Run to the G June 2007, 40. First Marathon Canberra 2008, the day after I turned 41. First Ultra, You Yangs 50km, July 2009 at 42.
Now at 43 I have 8 marathons and 4 ultras to my name.
