One of "those" runs :)

Postby Rowey » Thu Feb 11, 2010 8:21 am

Hi there

Lots of running is "meat and potatoes" stuff... you know...keep up with the training. But (as you well know) sometimes it is magical :D

...like last night.... an hour at dusk.....10k's....half a dozen bursts of speed (!).......... and I couldn't back off..... a real sense of the total training load having been absorbed and put to use....lifting the legs up and forward into racing mode......

When was your last one? What was it like for you?

Everyone has them and once you have a couple....well........ .....you're hooked !

nb: Note to self ....1 full bore run = 4 -5 easy follow up runs......

cheers

Yes I know this feeling but I tend to forget it as soon as I hit a hard patch...

but those hard patches are all the more easier to get through, knowing if I break through that wall, the magic will be on the other side!

After a week of stupid heat and depressingly slow times, last night in light rain at dusk, I sprung along and loved every minute of it.

I had a great run leading up to my first half marathon. It was after a severe case of "runner's guilt" when I gave up a third of the way through a long run with my running group. The run we were doing was about 16km and included a particular set of hills which I mentally struggle with. after a few days of kicking myself for giving up, I woke up early the next saturday and attempted the run on my own.

It was a beautiful crisp spring morning and I approached the hills and the distance with a positive mind - it felt so good to complete that run knowing that it had stumped me only a few days before. I think I was on a high for the next couple of days. I carried that feeling along with me when i ran my first half marathon - no wonder running is so addictive.

'peachy' ?

Had a corker yesterday too. I just wanted to up the ante on my run that morning, and through hills and traffic run a sub-50min 10k.

And I did it by 6 seconds.

Just to prove to myself I could take a step up if I want to and my legs and lungs just let me run quick.

... now if only I could co-ordinate traffic, trains and flatten two suburbs.

Hello again

The other week I planned to do 61k to reach 700 for the year, and a busy time at work meant the window for that running was Fri-Sun.

anyway the :D part came in the last 500m on Sunday night ( around 11pm), spontaneously ( Yes!!) I took off my shirt, ran topless and twirled my shirt above my head.

It's such a joyful feeling (sometimes) that its hard to put into words. The "wordless religion" that George Sheehan talked about.

Well i didn't take my shirt off, but as I've been back running for a week now, after my month holiday, I did a similar thing!! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I started running and I felt SO GOOD, I involantarily threw my hands up in the air and said "I'M RUNNING"!!!

Can't wait to get back to the fitness I had before I stopped though!

Hi there

Yesterday in Ballarat (noon max = 5deg) I ran around Lake Wendouree ( from my Dad's place)- 8.7 k.... and it was gorgeous!!....cold wet windy and wild!!.. and the Lake is filling again !!.... I was well dressed (running tights, 4 layers on top, hat) and it was a delicious, dare I say 'peachy' run. The north wind blowing off the water , as you run along the south side, is a ripper.
Heading out again this afternoon, to top off a great month. {edit ps it not as cold, but still nice!!}

"character building conditions", to say the least - :)

cheers

I totally agree...it is the eternal search for that moment that keeps you running, i reckon. It's a bit like gambling....you don't gt it every time, but it makes you keep on keeping on, becuase the memory of that feeling is what is totally inspiring you. You can't make it happen, but when it does, you recognise it.

I run topless every morning and I don't care about the stares and looks!!

I am crazy and mad, but I have worked really hard to achieve a specified fitness level and running conditioning. And, I am proud ot it!!
