Top Aussie performances!

Postby lebusqp » Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:38 am

Great performances by Jeff Hunt and Nikki Chapple over the weekend in Japan.

Hunt debuted in the marathon at Beppu with a strong finishing 3d in 2.11.

Chapple defeated a top field in a 1/2 marathon with a world class 68mins.

I understand that Jeff's performance was also the fastest Aussie debut time as well, just taking over Mona's old mark.

Mona has declared Hunt the next great marathon hope. Martin Dent also finished 11th, and both run Commenwealth Games qualifying tiimes.

Incredible time by Nikki Chapple too, looks like my chance of beating her may have passed for now

Nikki ran back to back 32+ 10ks so I'd reckon she'll pop mid 31m for a straight out 10k.

She popped a 15.27 5k road last year as well as 32.38 for 10k road 32.29 track 10k and 70mins for a half. I'm pretty sure you can run similar times this year John.

Her 5km splits were amazing: 16:06, 16:19, 16:29, 16:14 :D

The women's world record for the HM is 66:25 (Lorna Kiplagat), Nikki Chapple deserves to be very proud of herself, I can't wait to see how she progresses.

Australian distance running is looking quite exciting at the moment.

Great stuff by Nikki & Jeff!

Also in the last week or so, Ryan Foster set a new Aussie 1km Indoor record, 2:19.60

That's a solid debut for Michael. His 10k/HM performances and his physique suggest he has sub 2.10 potential.

Good to see Patrick Makau run so well, he's run some terrific 1/2 marathons, I think he now sits at number 4 on the all time list for the marathon.

Great effort by Michael, except the online coverage i watched was in dutch and i was all at sea. Only got to see glimpes of his run, but yes, definately a sub 2:10 runner, be good to see his next one. Maybe Gold Coast? Does have a sub 63min half there, would be a good place to do it :D

And at the Penn Relays in the US, our Distance Medley team finished 5th in the "USA vs World" race.

Birmingham 2.55 for 1200m (despite losing a shoe at 200)

Wroe 44.8 for 400m

Gregson 1.47 for 800 (went out too hard)

Riseley 3.59 for 1600m

Oh, and the crowd was 54,000.... mainly there to see Mr U. Bolt anchor a 4x100 relay in 8.79....

I was trying to update this as a Facebook status update but stupid IPhone timed itself out. This is seriously brilliant, more so for a 20 year old probably not yet at his peak. I think, Sam, it warrants a separate thread.
Revised running goals...
Track goals: sub 2:10; 4:30; 9:45; 17:00; 35:00 for 800/1500/3/5/10 (possible Zatopek)

Road
keep under my age for 10K

>1 sub 17 by summer's end

keep under 80 for the 1/2

a 2011 marathon

Healthy, happy, clear of mind.

Good to see Buster on the comeback trail, a nice soft 7.50.9 win at a BMC meet in England.

looked very smooth doing it too...5K Diamond League in Sweden next week, up against C. Birmingham. Likely to be a fast field, let's see what they're dragged through in.

Can't see Buster going much faster than 13.20. Collis, maybe a 13.05!!
We've got some depth at the verysharp pointy end of our distance guys at the moment. Buster running into some form to add to that depth is pretty exciting.

Had been struggling with that injury for quite some time before he snapped it. Im unsure, is it an injury you can easily come back from? Its never nice to see one of our Ferny Creek training group breakdown, wish him a speedy and successful recovery. :D
